SERIES INFORMATION
  • UH defeated Arizona for the first time in six tries and for the first time in four games in Honolulu.
  • Hawai‘i holds an 31-61 (.337) record against current members of the Pac-12 conference. The Rainbow Warriors are now 24-39 (.381) all-time at home against the Pac-12.
  • UH’s last win against the Pac-12 was a 28-20 home win over Colorado in the 2015 season opener. UH had since lost vs. Cal (2016), at Arizona (2016) and at UCLA (2017) since then.
 
STREAKS/TRENDS
  • UH is 3-1 in season openers under head coach Nick Rolovich and have won their opener in each of the last three years. 
  • UH is 4-0 in home openers under Rolovich. Overall, the Warriors have won their last five home openers dating back to 2015.
  • UH has won 12 of its last 13 regular-season non-conference home games.
  • UH is 7-1 in regular-season non-conference home games under Rolovich with its only loss against BYU to close out 2017.
  • Since 2003, UH has 11 wins versus teams from the Power 5 conferences—ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC—in 38 opportunities
  • UH’s last seven wins against Power 5 conferences have come against Pac-12 squads.
  • UH is 10-0 under Rolovich when scoring 40+ points and 21-0 including his tenure as UH offensive coordinator (2010-11).
  • UH is 62-36-5 all-time in season openers, including a 17-17 mark in season-openers at Aloha Stadium. In UH’s last home season opener in 2015, UH defeated Colorado (28-20).

TEAM NOTES
  • Former UH and Arizona head coach Dick Tomey was honored prior to the game and halftime. Dozens of former players from Hawai‘i and Arizona were on the field to join the Tomey family who were honorary captains and stood at midfield for the coin toss.
  • The Warriors are 4-4 on national TV games dating back to last season. Prior to 2018, UH was 2-36 in their last 38 nationally-televised games.
  • The last time UH had six turnovers was 2013 at Nevada.
  • The last time UH had six turnovers and won the game was at Idaho in 2007. 
  • Lucas Havrisik’s 53-yard field goal was tied for the second-longest by a UH opponent.  
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Cedric Byrd II tied a school record with four touchdown catches. The last UH player to have four touchdown catches was Chris Gant at Wyoming.
  • Byrd set career highs with 14 catches for 224 yards. 
  • The 14 catches were the most since Kealoha Pilares’ school-record 18 catches in 2010 versus Louisiana Tech.
  • The 224 yards receiving ranks seventh all-time on the single-game list and were the most since John Ursua’s 272 in the 2017 season-opener. 
  • Cole McDonald finished with 378 yards in three quarters of action. It was his eighth career game over 300 yards.
  • McDonald threw for four touchdowns, the fifth-time he has thrown for at least that many. 
  • McDonald also threw four interceptions. The last UH quarterback to throw four interceptions was Taylor Graham versus USC in 2013.
  • Redshirt freshman Kai Kaneshiro recorded his first career interception on UH’s first defensive series of the game. 
  • JoJo Ward scored his 10th career TD on a 39-yard pass from McDonald in the first quarter. 
  • Senior running back Dayton Furuta scored his third career touchdown on a three-yard plunge in the third quarter. 
  • Senior safety Ikem Okeke recorded his first career interception and returned it 49 yards to help a squelch Arizona scoring drive in in the fourth quarter.
  • Making their first career starts for UH were Gene Pryor (RT) and Jared Smart (WR) on offense and Cortez Davis (CB), Kendall Hune (DT), Paul Scott (LB) and Mason Vega (DE) on defense.
