SERIES INFORMATION: Hawai‘i and San Diego State met for the 30th time and 18th time in Honolulu—with the win SDSU series lead expands to 19-9-2 (.667) and 9-7-2 (.555) in Honolulu.
    SDSU extends its series win streak to four (4) games.—With the loss, the Hawai‘i program record drops to 536-431-25 (.553), and 448-274-22 (.636) at home.
—With the loss, the Hawai‘i overall Mountain West record drops to 4-22 (.154), all under head coach Norm Chow.
— Hawai‘i last opened the season with a 2-4 record in the 2014 season, finishing with a 4-9 record. The last prior season was in 2009..
—UH is now 1-3 in Mountain West home openers, and are 21-16 (.568) in conference home openers all-time.
—With the loss, UH now holds a 37-28-1 record in Homecoming contests, extending the losing streak to four games.
UH has not earned a Homecoming victory under Norm Chow.
—UH is now tied with opponents 103-103 at home, while they have been outscored 121-0 on the road this year.
 
Team Notes:
  • Pumphrey’s 34-yard touchdown to open the scoring was the longest rush against UH this season, surpassing Wisconsin’s Alec Ingold.
    • It was the earliest an opponent has scored on UH this season.
  • Quentin Pedroza’s first quarter fumble was first fumble committed by a UH wide receiver this year on offense.
  • Dakota Torres’ nine-yard (9) to end the first quarter was the first reception of his career.
  • Isaiah Bernard’s 52-yard reception in the second quarter was the second-longest of the year for UH.
  • Melvin Davis’one-yard (1) touchdown snapped a nine (9) quarter scoring drought.
  • Nick Nelson’s second quarter punt return of 13 yards was the longest this season at the time for a UH return man—improving on that mark in the third quarter with a 16-yarder.
  • Collecting his 12th tackle just under 9:00 remaining in the third quarter, Julian Gener set a new career high for stops. He finished the night with 19, 14 of which were solo stops, representing a season high for UH.
    • The most tackles since Solomon Elimimian had 20 vs. Utah State in 2007.
