UH remains winless in nine all-time meetings against USC.
This was the sixth meeting between the teams since 1999 and the fifth time opening the season against each other in that span. There are no future dates set.
UH has lost seven of its last eight meetings versus AP ranked squads dating back to 2008. Three of those losses have come against USC (2010, 12, 13). UH dropped to 10-36 all-time record against nationally ranked teams, including 9-22 at home.
Hawai‘i dropped to 58-34-5 (.624) all-time in season openers.
UH has dropped 11 straight nationally televised games dating back to 2011 and are 17-46-2 in 65 all-time appearances.
UH dropped to 29-54 all-time vs. current members of the Pac-12 conference.
Sophomore safety Marrell Jackson recorded his first career interception with his second quarter pick of Cody Kessler.
Senior linebacker Brendan Daley recorded his first career sack with his third quarter takedown of Max Wittek. Daley also finished with a team-high 3.0 TFLs.
UH surrendered seven sacks versus the Trojans, the most since the giving up the same number at Boise State in 2010.
Ohio State transfer Taylor Graham made his debut as Rainbow Warrior quarterback and completed 16-for-41 passes for 208 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions
Four players earned their first starts as Rainbow Warriors, all on offense: quarterback Taylor Graham, wide receiver Donnie King, wide receiver Vasquez Haynes and wide receiver Keith Kirkwood.
