Dear Prospective Student Athlete:
Aloha! Welcome to the University of Hawaii and, in particular, our softball program. We wish to assist you any way possible as you begin your search for the desired academic & athletic setting to continue your education. Your interests will shape your desires and goals as you progress through from high school to college. Per NCAA rules, we can actively begin recruitment of you as a prospective student-athlete beginning September 1st of your junior year. Prior to this time, you may request literature from the University of Hawai‘i and complete the questionnaire for future consideration.
Academic eligibility is the main goal for all interested student-athletes. The University of Hawai‘i requires all students take either the SAT or ACT exam and score at least a minimum of 1530 on their SAT exam on the Critical Reading, Math, and Writing portions of the exam. This equates to an overall 110 ACT exam score or a Composite Score of 22 on each of the 5 subscores in English, Math, Reading, Science, and combined English/Writing. Along with the minimum required exam scores, the University of Hawai‘i requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80 overall for consideration. Math courses must include Geometry and Algebra II as requirements by the Office of Admissions.
The NCAA Eligibility Clearinghouse (EC) requires 16 core courses: 4 years of English; 3 years of Math (algebra I or higher); 2 years of Science (1 yr. lab); 2 years of Social Studies; 1 year additional English, Math or Science; and 4 years of additional courses from any area above or foreign language or nondoctrinal religion/philosophy. Go to the NCAA website: www.ncaa.org and click on initial-eligibility fir prospective student-athletes to join for athletic consideration.
