No. 2 Hawai`i vs. No. 3 Idaho
QUOTE SHEET
Idaho head coach Debbie Buchanan
“I think if you look at the first two games I thought we played fairly well. One of our goals was to come out and be a defensive team. Block at a high level and dig some balls. The thing that broke down at times was our passing. Against Hawai`i those were two of our better games back-to-back. I thought those two games could have gone either way.”
“When you play a team like a Hawai`i you can have to many gaps in points. You can’t always be playing catch up.”
“I think the difference as offensive. They were getting some kills and they were digging and siding out.”
“It’s unfortunately to get the loss and I thought this is the best we played them all year. When you look at the overall we had way more positives. We learned a lot and we have to take that away.”
Hawai`i head coach Dave Shoji
“I think there was a reason that Idaho was ranked highly in blocks per set. I’m not sure how we won game one, they out hit us and out blocked us. But we did play pretty good defense. We got a few breaks in set two down the stretch and managed to survive. We didn’t hit very smartly. We knew they were a good blocking team and we just hit into it too many times.”
“I think New Mexico State is like Idaho in their blocking scheme. I know they like us to hit into Torres. I think we will see something similar on Sunday. I think we have to be balanced if we want to beat New Mexico State.”
Hawai`i outside hitter Aneli Cubi-Otineru
“They are a great blocking team. But we stayed patient. I think we have to pass good on Sunday and stick to the game-plan. I think we didn’t play our game when we played New Mexico at home. They adjusted on us and they showed us some flaws that we had. It will be an interesting match.”
“I think we served more aggressively today. Our passing was great, we moved our feet, talked to each other and helped each other out.
