Softball Sweeps Series at UC San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i softball team (23-18, 15-6 BW) completed a doubleheader and three-game series sweep of UC San Diego (18-25, 7-14 BW) on Saturday. The Rainbow Wahine overcame an early four-run deficit, scoring 10 unanswered runs to defeat the Tritons, 10-5 in game one. UH pitcher Hannah Pitts earned the complete-game victory to improve to 10-4 overall. In game two, starter Taryn Irimata fired a five-hit shutout while Milan Ah Yat's solo home run in the second inning proved to be enough offense as UH held off UCSD, 1-0 at the Triton Softball Field.

The Rainbow Wahine have swept three series thus far this season against CSUN, Cal State Bakersfield and UC San Diego. Hawai'i has won five of its seven Big West series in 2026 and have taken at least one game off every Big West opponent they have faced thus far. The 'Bows have won their last six-straight conference games.

Game 1: Hawai'i 10, UC San Diego 5
Hawai'i fell behind early in the first inning due to a Maalia Cherry three-run home run. The Tritons extended their lead to 4-0 on an RBI-triple by Hayley Garcia. The Rainbow Wahine rallied to get one run back in the top of the third on an Ah Yat RBI-single that drove home Rhea Furtado.

In the fifth, UH rallied with two outs to score four runs. After Kayara Tuiloma drove in Ah Yat with an RBI single, Hawai'i loaded the bases. Teiah Keliiholokai was hit by a pitch and Bailey Nagasako drew a walk to both force in runs; Larissa Goshi then came through with an RBI single to give UH a 5-4 lead from which they never looked back.

Tuiloma blasted a three-run home run in the sixth to extend UH's lead to 8-4 and Jamie McGaughey drilled a two-run home run in the seventh to cap the scoring at 10-4. UCSD added a run in the seventh, but it was not enough to overtake the 'Bows.

Hawai'i starting pitcher Hannah Pitts (10-4) earned the complete-game win, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out two.

UCSD used five pitchers in the loss. Lauren Rozell did not allow a run in the first 2.0 innings, giving up two hits with a walk. Zoe Rutherford gave up three runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout in 2.2 innings. Callie Christian took the loss, dropping her record to 0-5. She gave up two runs on two hits with a walk. Bella Settembro threw the next 2.0 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with two strikeouts, and Alyanna Gonzales got the final out.

Game 2: Hawai'i 1, UC San Diego 0
The 'Bows relied on a stellar pitching performance and a single swing of the bat to earn the series sweep with a 1-0 win over UCSD. Ah Yat provided the game's only run, while Irimata tossed a gem to improve to 10-7 overall.

Irimata was nearly untouchable in the circle, tossing a 7.0-inning complete-game shutout. She escaped a few jams, stranding nine Triton runners while scattering five hits in the series finale and striking out a career-high nine batters. UC San Diego's Callie Howard took the tough-luck loss despite allowing only one run on five hits in her own complete-game effort.

Hawai'i combined for 18 hits across the doubleheader, with Tuiloma and Ah Yat leading the charge to keep the team amongst the Big West leaders.

The Rainbow Wahine return home to host Cal Poly in their final home series of the season. The series starts with a doubleheader on Friday, April 24 with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m. HT. Saturday, April 25 is Hawai'i's Senior Day. The series finale starts at 11:00 a.m. HT. UH will honor its seven seniors--Ellyanna Cinzori, Millie Fidge, Maycen Gibbs, Larissa Goshi, Carys Murakami, Hannah Pitts, and Cierra Yamamoto.
