HONOLULU – The Hawai'i baseball team returned home in victorious fashion, defeating Hawai'i Pacific 4-1 on Wednesday night at Les Murakami Stadium. The Rainbow Warriors (13-10) utilized a four-run seventh inning and a combined pitching effort to secure the midweek victory.
The game remained scoreless through the first six innings as both pitching staffs traded zeroes. Hawai'i Pacific broke the tie in the top of the seventh when Noah Hata doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Hawai'i responded immediately in the bottom of the seventh with a four-run rally.
Kody Watanabe tied the game up with an RBI single through the right side of the infield before a
Jake Redding bases-loaded walk gave UH its first lead. After a strikeout,
Kamana Nahaku drew another free pass with the bases loaded and
Gabe Wright capped off the frame with a run-scoring single to left to make it 4-1.
The Rainbow Warriors used seven different pitchers to hold the Sharks to a run on three hits, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
Derek Valdez and
Saul Soto each provided two hitless innings to start the game.
Tsubasa Tomii earned the win in relief, while
Ryan Inouye pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record the save against his former team.
Gabe Wright extended his hitting streak to eight games, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, while
Tate Shimao turned in his second consecutive multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The Rainbow Warriors will host Cal State Fullerton over the weekend in a three-game conference series, starting Friday at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
