PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team carded an opening round 295 on the first day of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Monday at the Classic Club.
The Rainbow Warriors are tied for 18
th place with fellow Big West member UC Riverside. Colorado leads the field at 276 followed by Sacramento State (279), Maryland (280), Wyoming (281), and Oral Roberts (283).
Four golfers share the individual lead at 5-under 72 – UC Santa Barbara's Jack Watters, Wyoming's Brody Knowlton, Omaha's Spencer Clatt, and Colorado's Parker Paxton.
Cameron Combado led the way for the Rainbow Warriors with a 1-over 73 and is tied for 59
th place. His 73 matched his single-round low score for the season. A trio of UH golfers are one stroke back at 2-over 74 –
Alec Hilgers,
James Whitworth, and
Dane Watanabe – and are tied for 73
rd place.
Also competing for UH is
Nathan Szpakowicz, who is 121
st at 81.
The second round is scheduled for Tuesday with an 8:00 a.m. PT shotgun start.
