In prequalifying singles, newcomer
Timothy Li, a senior transfer from UCLA, fought hard, but Michigan State's Davis Saye held off Li in a tight, straight-set win taking the first set via a tiebreaker that went to extra points and by a break in the second, 7-6 (7), 6-4. On Sunday, Li will take on Mehdi Sadaoui of the University of Miami to start the prequalifying consolation rounds at 5:30 a.m. HT.
In the prequalifying doubles Round of 32, Li and partner
Azuma Visaya were edged out by UNC Charlotte's Vasco Prata and Ivan Dreycopp by just a break in both sets, 6-4, 6-4. Li and Visaya will begin the prequalifying consolation round on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. HT against Miles Groom and Henry Ren of Dartmouth.
