SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (3-9, 0-1 Big West) fell in their Big West opener at No. 69 UC Santa Barbara, 4-0 at the Arnhold Tennis Center on Monday.
The Gauchos won all three doubles matches to captured the doubles point. But UH's No. 2
Diego Dalisay and
Karl Collins fell to Lucca Liu and Diogo Morais, 6-4. On the No. 3 court, Hawai'i's
Quinn Snyder and
Andy Hernandez held off UCSB's Conrad Brown/Charlie Underwood, 6-4.
UCSB quickly recorded winning the first three matches for the sweep. UCSB's Liu defeated UH's
Karl Collins, 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 3 court. On Court #1, 29th-ranked Gianluca Brunkow swept UH's 62nd-ranked
Azuma Visaya, 6-1, 6-1 and 73rd-ranked Morais held off UH's Dalisay, 6-3, 7-5 for the win.
Hawai'i will now head north to take on Sacramento State on Wednesday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m. HT. The Rainbow Warriors will then compete in the Golden State Invitational. UH will first take on UC Davis in a Big West contest on Friday, March 7 at 8:00 a.m. HT followed by Nevada on Saturday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. HT.
