HONOLULU – A day after setting season-highs in runs and hits, the Hawaii baseball team saw its bats go quiet in a 7-1 loss to Northeastern before another sellout crowd at Les Murakami Stadium Saturday.
Three Husky pitchers combined to hold the Rainbow Warriors to season lows in both runs and hits (6) while fanning eight Hawai'i batters. Northeastern starter Will Jones went the first five innings and scattered three hits while giving up a run to get the win, before turning it over to Charlie Walker and Max Gitlin for the final four frames.
The Huskies got on the board first when Will Fosberg launched a two-out solo homer in the second inning to make it 1-0.
After Northeastern starter Will Jones held the 'Bows in check through the first three innings, UH broke through with a run in the fourth to tie it up.
Xaige Lancaster walked to lead off the inning then stole second and third base before coming in to score on a
Jared Quandt RBI infield single with two outs.
The Huskies reclaimed the lead for good with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. The first three batters in the sixth inning reached base to plate a pair of runs and chase UH starter
Itsuki Takemoto with one out in the frame.
Northeastern added to its lead in the seventh with a Harrison Feinberg lead off homer before plating two more runs on a passed ball and an RBI single to make it 6-1.
The two teams will play game three of their four-game series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
