Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men’s Volleyball Falls To Stanford For First Time Since 2016

HONOLULU – The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team saw its 12-match win streak over Stanford come to an end after a four-set loss Friday at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 19-25, 26-24, 25-23, 26-24.

The Rainbow Warriors (9-1), who suffered their first loss of the season, also saw a 10-match win streak over the Cardinal in Honolulu come to an end. Stanford last won in Honolulu in 2013.

Hawai'i was led by opposite Kristian Titriyski, who posted a career-high 21 kills, hitting .472 with two aces, six digs, and four blocks. Louis Sakanoko made his second straight start and finished with 15 kills, two aces, eight digs, and two blocks.

Theo Snoey led the Cardinal (4-4) with a match-high 23 kills, hitting .349 with two aces, six digs, and three blocks. Moses Wagner added 14 kills, five digs, and three blocks.

As a team, the Warriors won every statistical category, hitting .322 compared to .315 for the Cardinal. UH also had more aces (8-6), digs (36-33), and blocks (10-7.5).

Before a season-high crowd of 8,559, UH could not overcome late set deficits in the second and third sets that ultimately cost them the match. Hawai'i trailed 22-19 in Set 2 before tying the score at 22. With the score tied at 24, the Cardinal scored the final two points to even the match at 1-1. In Set 3, UH also trailed 22-19 and pulled within one three separate occasions before Stanford closed out the set on a Sakanoko hitting error.

In the back-and-forth fourth set, Hawai'i took a 23-22 lead after a Titriyski-Justin Todd double block. But the Cardinal scored four of the last five points to pull out the victory, blocking Adrian Roure on their second match point.

Titriyski was nearly unstoppable in the match, recording six kills in eight errorless attempts in the first set. In the final two sets, he tallied 12 of his 21 kills, hitting at a .500 clip.

UH will take the next week off before travelling to the state of North Carolina for a four-match road swing.
