CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team used a one-two punch of
Kristian Titriyski and
Adrien Roure en route to a straight set victory over Queens (N.C.) Friday at the Levine Center. Set scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-16.
The pair combined for 27 of the Rainbow Warriors' 42 total kills and hit .429. Roure led the way with a match-high 14 kills, hitting .462 while Titriyski added 13 kills, hitting .391. They each had six digs.
As a team, UH (11-1) hit .354 for the match and limited the Royals to .129.
No other Rainbow Warrior had more than five kills. Setter
Tread Rosenthal dished out 35 assists and tallied three aces, four kills, and eight digs. Middle blocker
Kurt Nusterer had five blocks and libero
'Eleu Choy recorded six digs.
Queens (9-6) was led by Carson Strawbridge's 13 kills while Chance Shampine added 10 kills.
For the second straight match,
Kainoa Wade tallied two aces off the bench.
The Warriors jumped out to a big lead in Set 1 before the Royals used their block to pull within three at 21-18. Titriyski had two of his seven kills during a 4-1 run that closed out the set.
UH used a 7-0 run to spark a 10-2 start to Set 2. The Warriors led by as many as 10 at 18-8 but a 7-2 run pulled the Royals to within four at 21-17. Queens got within three but a Titriyski kill gave the Warriors set point and a Royals service error ended it.
Hawai'i broke open Set 3 with a 10-4 run that included seven Royals errors. Wade's two aces ignited a 6-0 scoring run.
Louis Sakanoko ended the match with his third kill.
The Warriors will next play a rare double-header on Saturday with match against Catawba College at 11:00 a.m. ET (6:00 a.m. HT) and a rematch with Queens at 6:00 p.m. ET (1:00 p.m. HT).
