Cha'lei Reid earned her second Big West Women's Volleyball Freshman of the Week award on Monday after posting her most efficient hitting performance of the season over the weekend.
The award is Reid's third Big West honor of the season. She was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8 and earned the freshman honor on Sept. 15.
Reid put away 28 total kills and averaged 4.67 kills per set while posting two double-figure performances to open UH's three-match road trip. She had 10 kills at Long Beach State on Friday then put away 18 kills in 32 attempts and hit a season-high .438 in a sweep of UC San Diego on Saturday. Her kill total at UCSD is tied for the conference's third highest in a three-set match this season.
Reid also had an ace and five blocks, including four solo, over the weekend and led the Rainbow Wahine with 33.5 total points.
Reid leads the team and moved up to fifth in the Big West with 3.42 kills per set this season. She also rose to third in the conference in points per set (4.26) and leads the Big West with 31 total service aces and 0.48 per set.
After splitting their weekend matches, the Rainbow Wahine (7-12, 3-5 Big West) close out their road trip on Tuesday when they face UC Irvine at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Pacific Time (3 p.m. Hawai'i Time).
