CARY, N.C.--University of Hawai'i women's tennis players
Nikola Homolkova and
Ana Vilcek will travel to North Carolina to compete in the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-American Championships at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.. In singles, Vilcek will kickoff the tourney in the Pre-Qualifying Round of 128 this Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024. Homolkova will begin play in the Qualifying Round of 64 on Sunday, Sept. 22. Vilcek and Homolkova will also compete in the Pre-Qualifying Round of 32 on Sunday, Sept. 22.
On Saturday, Vilcek will open in the Pre-Qualifying Round of 128 against Columbia's Malak El Allami at 6:00 a.m. HT. Homolkova's opening match will follow on Sunday. In doubles, the two will start Saturday's Pre-Qualifying Round against Oklahoma's Salakthip Ounmang and Emma Staker at 10:30 a.m. HT.
Homolkova enters her senior season ranked at No. 65 in the most recent ITA poll (Aug. 27, 2024). Last year she led the Rainbow Wahine with a 12-7 overall singles record playing exclusively at No. 3 in the lineup. She finished last season strong, winning three of her last four matches. Her lone loss during that string of matches came in a hard-fought, third set, super-tie-breaker vs. Cal Poly.
Vilcek also posted double-digit wins in sinlges a year ago, finishing her junior campaign with a 10-7 overall record. She recorded a 5-6 record at No. 1 while going 5-1 at No. 2.
Combined, the duo of Homolova and Vilcek played 12 doubles matches together, splitting time between No. 1 and No. 2 and finishing with a 5-6 record.
This is the first time since 2019 that the Rainbow Wahine will compete in the ITA All-American Championships.
Since 1983, the ITA Women's All-American Championships have featured the nation's top NCAA Division I players and have been a pioneer in women's college tennis. In addition, the event has created milestones that have directly influenced the popularity of women's collegiate tennis over the years. The 2024 ITA Women's All-American Championships will have a draw size of the following, Singles: Pre-Qualifying (128), Qualifying (64), Main Draw (64) and Doubles: Pre-Qualifying (32), Qualifying (32), Main Draw (32). From this, ten singles players (10) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (eight main draw quarterfinalists & two feed-in consolation finalists). Meanwhile, four doubles teams (4) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the All-American Championships (four main draw semifinalists).
