BeachBows Welcome Carvalho and Prince To Coaching Staff

HONOLULU -  University of Hawai'i beach volleyball coach Evan Silberstein announced the addition of two new assistants to his coaching staff with a pair boasting strong local ties. Joining the BeachBows will be Bryan Carvalho, a Kailua native and Hawaii Baptist Academy graduate, as well as Victoria Prince, a former two-time All-American with the Rainbow Wahine indoor program.

"Both Bryan and Victoria are proven winners," Silberstein said. "They will make us better while bringing great pride to Hawai'i Athletics day-in and day-out.  Together, they bring a wealth of volleyball knowledge, coaching experience and amazing leadership skills to our program. I am so excited to welcome them back to the islands in support of our amazing beach volleyball student-athletes."

Carvalho brings two decades of coaching experience with him to Mānoa. He most recently served as the associate head coach for the Ottawa University Arizona beach volleyball team where the program enjoyed wild success. In Carvalho's seven years there, Ottawa advanced to the NAIA national championship match three times, winning titles in 2019 and '21.  Overall, he helped lead the Spirit to a 104-42 record and five appearances in the nationals. He also coached eight All-Americans at OUAZ, including the 2024 NAIA Pair of the Year.

Carvalho has been coaching collegiate volleyball since 2013. He began his collegiate career at CSU Bakersfield, serving as an assistant coach for both the beach and indoor volleyball programs and at one point served as the interim head coach for indoor volleyball. Carvalho later served as an assistant coach at Azusa Pacific University and Lee University. While at Lee, he helped lead the Flames to a 20-win season and their first-ever conference semi-final appearance.

The BeachBows also welcome back Prince, a familiar name for UH volleyball fans. The native of Kennewick, Wash., was a two-year letterwinner for the indoor squad (2004-05), earning All-American and first-team all-conference honors in each season. She played in 64 overall matches and helped lead the 'Bows to back-to-back WAC titles while twice being named WAC Tournament MVP. Prince left UH ranked among the program's all-time leaders in career hitting percentage and blocks and aces per set.

After leaving UH, Prince played on the AVP Tour and competed in the first ever Collegiate Beach Volleyball National Championships in 2006, finishing second. Prince later worked for FOX Sports as a marketing coordinator before beginning her coaching career at Oaks Christian High School, where she served as the beach volleyball coach from 2016-23. During her tenure at Oaks Christian, she helped the Lions achieve a No. 5 national ranking and was named the 2023 Coach of the Year for the CIF Southern Section. Since returning to Hawai'i she has been coaching the Outrigger Canoe Club girls club volleyball team alongside former UH beach volleyball assistant Danny Alvarez.
