HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (7-14) rallied to score all six runs in the fifth for a come-from-behind win over Cleveland State, 6-1 in the OUTRIGGER Rainbow Wahine Classic finale on Sunday at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Millie Fidge earned the win in relief to even her record to 2-2 while
Fidge shut out the Vikings for the last four innings allowing just two hits with three strike outs. and three walks. For the tournament, she made three appearance, totaling 7.2 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.83. UH starter Key-Annah Campbell-Pua gave up one run in the first three innings.
Cleveland State struck first on a Staffan RBI single to drive in Gilkerson for ann early 1-0 lead.
The Vikings held the 1-0 lead until the fifth when UH erupted for six runs.
Ka'ena Keliinoi led the inning off with a single to the right-center gap. Pinch-hitter
Madixx Muramoto executed a sacrifice bunt but the throw to first pulled the covering second baseman off the bag for an error. With runners at first and second and no outs, a fly out to left by
Haley Johnson pushed both runners into scoring position.
Maya Nakamura ripped a double that bounced to the wall allowing both Keliinoi and Muramoto to score to take a 2-1 lead.
Dallas Millwood followed with an opposite field single to left to drive in Nakamura from second. A walk to
Chloe Borges pushed Millwood to second, but on the play a passed ball allowed Millwood to hustle into third.
Mya'Liah Bethea lifted a pop fly to second which was misplayed for an error from which Millwood scored. Xiao Gin capped the scoring chopping an opposite-field single through the leftside of the infield to drive in both Bethea and pinch-runner
Keely Kai for a 6-1 lead.
Cleveland State's Melissa Hozopfel threw a complete game in the loss, dropping her record to 4-4. She allowed six runs on six hits with six walks and four strikeouts.
Next up, the Rainbow Wahine will travel to California to begin The Big West season at UC Santa Barbara. UH will play a single game on Friday, March 15
th at 10:00 a.m. HT followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16 beginning at 9:00 a.m. HT.
