HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i freshman quarterback
Micah Alejado was named the Mountain West's Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week after his record-breaking performance in the Rainbow Warriors' 38-30 win over New Mexico Saturday to close out the season.
In addition, Alejado was named the Davey O'Brien Award's Great 8 and the Manning Award recognized him as one of eight "Stars of the Week" as one of the nation's top quarterback performers for Week 14.
The Las Vegas, Nev., native made his first career start against the Lobos and finished 37-of-57 with 469 passing yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for 54 yards on 10 carries and totaled 523 yards of total offense, which is the second-highest total in FBS this season.
Alejado set a new UH freshman single-game record for passing yards, surpassing
Timmy Chang's 403 yards against San Jose State in 2000. He also set a UH freshman record for passing touchdowns, which was also the most by a UH quarterback in a game since 2018.
His completions, attempts, passing yards, passing TDs, and total offense are the most by a UH quarterback in his starting debut. He is also the first UH quarterback in program history to throw for 450+ yards and rush for 50+ yards in a game. In addition, he is also the only FBS player this season to accomplish that feat.
Among FBS freshmen this season, his 469 yards passing and 37 completions are the most in a single-game while his five touchdowns are tied for the most.
Nine of Alejado's passes went for 20+ yards and he was 19-of-33 for 273 yards and three touchdowns in the first half alone.
The player of the week award is the third by a UH quarterback this season after
Brayden Schager was honored twice after UH's victories over Delaware State and Nevada.
