Alexander Named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention

HONOLULU — University of Hawai'i outside hitter Caylen Alexander punctuated a prolific junior season with an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention selection on Wednesday.

Alexander added the All-America honorable mention distinction to the Big West Player of the Year and AVCA All-Pacific Region honors she collected after leading the nation in total kills and total points and helping the Rainbow Wahine capture a fifth straight conference title.

Alexander earned UH's 14th AVCA All-America honorable mention selection and was the lone player from the Big West to be named to the AVCA's All-America lists this season. Alexander's selection marked the fifth straight season a UH player has earned recognition from the AVCA and the 38th time since 1981.

Alexander put away 611 kills and ranked fifth in NCAA Division I with 5.09 kills per set, UH's highest figures since the NCAA adopted its current 25-point scoring system in 2008. Her kill total was the most for a UH player since Jaime Houston posted 623 in 2007, the final season under the NCAA's 30-point scoring system. She also closed the season with 676.5 total points and placed seventh nationally with 5.64 points per set.

She exceeded 20 kills in 15 matches, posted 17 double-doubles (kills and digs), and earned a school- and conference-record seven Big West Offensive Player of the Week awards this season. Her career-high 38 kills against Texas State on Sept. 14 was the nation's highest total in a five-set match this season and her 36-kill effort against UC Riverside on Nov. 7 ranked fifth. She's the first UH player with two matches with 30-plus kills in a season since 2012 and ascended to 16th in program history with 1,225 career kills. She also led the team with 30 service aces while helping the 'Bows reach the NCAA Tournament for the 31st consecutive season and 42nd season overall.
