Catherine Belyakov and
Milan Bukovics swept this week's Big West Athlete of the Week awards after standout performances in this past weekend's UH-GCU Dual Meet at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. For Belyakov, it is her second Big West weekly award (Oct. 15), this year, while for Bukovics it marks his second conference weekly honor of his career after earning the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) weekly award last year on Oct. 18.
Belyakov won all four individual events she competed in while continuing to elevate herself in the UH record books. On Friday night, she won three events. She won the 100 breaststroke with the fifth fastest time in Rainbow Wahine history coming in at 1:01.20. She then claimed first place in the 100 freestyle touching the wall at 49.07 to tie for sixth-fastest in UH history. She closed her first day by winning the 100 individual medley with a time of 54.61. She wrapped up her weekend by winning the 200 IM with the second-fastest time in UH history at 1:58.67.
Bukovics was the top UH finisher in his four races as well, finishing in second in the 100 backstroke while capturing first place in three events. On Friday, Bukovics won the 100 butterfly with a mark of 47.95 followed by the 100 individual medley with a time of 49.72. On Saturday, he won his third event, pulling away to take the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.63.
