BeachBows Gear Up For Fall Competition

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i beach volleyball program soon embarks on its fall campaign with a trio of events starting in late October. For the third straight year, the Rainbow Wahine will participate this fall exclusively in pairs competition ahead of the team's 2025 spring campaign.

The Rainbow Wahine open with the Surf City Challenge, Oct. 26-27, in Huntington Beach. The tournament not only gives UH an opportunity to face the top pairs on the West Coast, but also allows the chance for the BeachBows to familiarize themselves with the eventual site of the 2025 NCAA Championships next May.

Less than a month later, UH travels to the third annual AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Pairs Championship in Huntsville, Ala. The event will take place Nov. 15-17 and will include 64 pairs selected from schools across the country. The traveling pairs for this year are yet to be determined. Last year, Hawai`i earned two bids based on previous NCAA results and returning player rankings in Tru Volley.

"From Huntington to Huntsville, our focus is to put our athletes in championship environments, play at the highest level possible and learn every time we step on the sand." head coach Evan Silberstein said. "Our student-athletes really enjoy the fall season so we're excited for them to get these opportunities to grow, improve and have fun."

The fall campaign closes with Kaua'i Invitational, Nov. 22-24, at Kalapaki Beach in Lihue. After a rousing success in the inaugural 2023 event, Cal Poly and UCLA will join UH in the second edition of the tournament. The weekend will not only feature pairs competition but also community outreach on the Garden Isle.

"What we are building on Kauai is really something special." Silberstein said. "From the top-notch competition, to the camaraderie among the players and most especially in spending time with the ever-gracious and welcoming Garden Island community, this event means so much to our team."

The Rainbow Wahine return 13 players from last year's squad that captured the Big West Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. Among those back are All-American Alana Embry and all-conference players Sydney Amiatu and Sydney Miller.  The complete 2024-25 Rainbow Wahine beach volleyball roster can be viewed here.
