SERIES VS UALBANY
Series Information: First Meeting

GAME STORYLINES
  • Hawai'i and UAlbany will meet for the first time on the football field.
  • The distance between the schools is 4,940 miles, marking it one of the furthest distances for a UH opponent in program history. Only games against Maine (5,150 miles), Boston College (5,071), Yale (5,002), Massachusetts (5,005), and Army (4,949) were farther.
  • UAlbany is a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), formerly Colonial Athletic Association, of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). UH has only played one other current CAA team with a 1-0 record over Maine.
  • UH has won its last 19 games against FCS teams dating back to 2001 with an average win margin of 26.7 points per game.
  • Not including the shortened 2020 COVID season, UH has played an FCS opponent in nine consecutive seasons and 15 of the last 16.
  • UH's last loss against an FCS team was the 2000 season-opener to Portland State, 45-20.
  • UH is 0-2 to start the season for the second consecutive year following a 37-24 loss to Stanford last week in Honolulu.
  • Both of UH's losses this season have come against Power 5 conference teams.
  • UAlbany dropped to 1-1 after a 21-17 loss at FBS's Marshall last Saturday in Huntington, W.V. The Great Danes led by as many as 10 in the third quarter before the Herd scored the final 14 points of the game.
  • UAlbany opened the season with a 34-13 home win over Fordham.
  • UAlbany has a 14-game road losing streak dating back to the 2021 spring season. The Great Danes' last road win was at New Hampshire, 24-20, to open the COVID spring season.
  • UAlbany's last win over an FBS team was against Buffalo in 2016.
  • UH ranks No. 2 nationally in total passing yards (706) behind USC (794). Quarterback Brayden Schager is No. 1 nationally in passing yards (706) and wide receiver Pofele Ashlock is No. 1 in receiving yards (241).
  • UAlbany has not committed a turnover in two games played while UH has not forced a turnover in two games.
  • UAlbany's defense has recorded 10 sacks—all against Fordham in the season-opener—in two games while UH has allowed nine.
  • UAlbany head coach Greg Gattuso in his 10th season with a 40-58 record. Prior to UAlbany, he coached 12 seasons at Duquesne, where he compiled a 97-32 mark. In 22 seasons, he has a career record of 137-89.
  • UH is 3-5 at home under head coach Timmy Chang.
  • A UH win would snap a three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
  • A UH loss would mark the second straight year that the Warriors started the season 0-3.
