ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team wrapped up play at the season-opening William H. Tucker Invitational with an 895 total following Tuesday's third and final round at the UNM Championship Course.
The Rainbow Warriors carded a final round 300 to finish in 18
th place. Host New Mexico rallied to win the team title at 835, three strokes over day one leader Texas Tech. San Diego State's Tyler Kowack captured medalist honors at 11-under 205, one stroke clear of the TTU teammates Calum Scott and Tyran Snyders.
Leading the way for the Warriors was senior
Blaze Akana, who shot even par 72 to finish the 54-hole tournament at even par 216. The Honolulu native tied for 31
st place.
Freshman
Dane Watanabe capped his first collegiate tournament with a 77 for a 225 total and tie for 72
nd place. UC Irvine transfer
Kolbe Irei posted his third consecutive 76 for a 228 total and tie for 86
th while
Garrett Takeuchi posted 75 for a 230 total and tie for 90
th place.
Freshman
Anson Cabello also concluded his first collegiate event and placed 93
rd at 231 following a final round 80.
The Rainbow Warriors will next compete in the Bill Cullum Invitational, Oct. 9-10 in Northridge, Calif.
