Rainbow Warriors Travel To No. 13 Oregon This Week

HONOLULU – Fresh off its first win of the season, the University of Hawai'i football team travels to the Pacific Northwest for a match-up against 13th-ranked Oregon Saturday, Sept. 16 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore. The Rainbow Warriors (1-2) and Ducks (2-0) are meeting for the first time since 1994. UH has won the last three in the series, including a 1992 victory, the last meeting in Eugene.

GAME STORYLINES
  • Hawai'i and Oregon will meet for the eighth time with the Ducks holding a 4-3 advantage.
  • UH has won the last three meetings in the series, including the last match-up Sept. 10, 1994, 36-16, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. UH won the last meeting in Eugene, 24-21, Sept. 5, 1992.
  • The series began in 1921 and continued in the 1928 and '29 seasons. The schools didn't meet again until the 1969 season.
  • The Ducks won the first four match-ups before the Rainbow Warriors secured a 41-17 victory, Dec. 3, 1988 in Honolulu.
  • The only other meeting in Eugene occurred in 1929, a 7-0 Oregon victory.
  • This year marks the second time in the last three seasons that UH will play two Pac-12 teams in the same season. Hawai'i lost to Stanford 37-24 on Sept. 1 in Honolulu.
  • Hawai'i holds a 32-65 (.330) all-time record against current members of the Pac-12.
  • Of UH's 12 wins over Power 5 teams since 2003, eight have come against Pac-12 opponents.
  • UH's last win over a Power 5 team was against Oregon State in 2019 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. Hawai'i also opened that season with a home win over Arizona at Aloha Stadium.
  • UH's last road/neutral win against a Pac-12 opponent was a 38-20 victory over Washington State in 2009 in a game played at Qwest Field in Seattle, Wash. Since then, UH has lost 11 straight.
  • Both of UH's losses this season have come against Power 5 teams (Vanderbilt & Stanford).
  • Hawai'i (1-2) secured its first win of the season with a 31-20 victory over UAlbany last week.
  • UH ranks No. 2 nationally in total passing yards (972) behind USC (1,187). QB Brayden Schager is No. 1 nationally in passing yards (972) and No. 2 in passing TDs (10) while WR Pofele Ashlock is No. 2 in receiving yards (315) and WR Steven McBride is tied for No. 2 in receiving TDs (5).
  • Oregon (2-0) scored 20 fourth quarter points for a 38-30 victory at Texas Tech last week.
  • UH is 0-7 on the road under head coach Timmy Chang.
  • Oregon defensive line coach Tony Tuioti was a four-year letterman at Hawai'i from 1996-99 and later coached at UH from 2008-13 as director of player personnel, defensive line coach and linebackers coach. He is one of two former Rainbow Warriors to win a conference championship as both a player and coach.
  • UO offensive line coach A'lique Terry spent one season as offensive line coach at UH in 2021 while offensive analyst Mike Cavanaugh was UH's offensive line coach from 1999-2004.
  • UO running back Kilohana Haasenritter (Hilo, Hawai'i) spent his first two collegiate seasons at UH, redshirting in 2020.
  • Hawai'i is 11-47 all-time versus nationally ranked teams, including a 1-20 mark on the road. UH's lone road win over a ranked team was at No. 22 Fresno State in 2008.
