NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team placed two members on the 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholars list.
Remington Hirano and
Tyler Ogawa were among the 546 Division I athletes to earn the prestigious recognition.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college
or university.
The pair were the first Rainbow Warriors to receive the honor since Scotty Yamashita in 2016.
Ogawa, a sophomore from Honolulu who was also selected to College Sports Communicators All-District team earlier this season, competed in nine tournaments with a 74.0 scoring average. In his lone season at UH after transferring from the University of San Diego, Hirano competed in all 10 tournaments finishing with a 74.3 average.
