HONOLULU – Seven University of Hawai'i football student-athletes were named to Athlon's Preseason All-Mountain West teams.
Senior defensive back
Cam Stone, a transfer from Wyoming, was the only Rainbow Warrior named to the first team. Last season, the Angleton, Texas native was named honorable mention all-Mountain West after posting 10 pass breakups and two interceptions for the Cowboys.
Sophomore running back
Tylan Hines was picked to the second team as an all-purpose/running back. The Mt. Pleasant, Texas native rushed for 634 yards and two touchdowns and posted four games with over 100 all-purpose yards.
A trio of defensive players were named to the third team – defensive lineman
John Tuitupou, linebacker
Logan Taylor, and safety
Peter Manuma. Tuitupou, a senior from Vaitogi, American Samoa, has 45 career tackles and 3.5 sacks in three seasons. Taylor, a senior from Harbor City, Calif., finished as the season with six games of double-digit tackles and was the team's leading tackler with 85. Manuma, a sophomore from 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu, tallied 70 tackles, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles in his rookie campaign.
Wide receiver
Jonah Panoke and offensive lineman
Eliki Tanuvasa were selected to the fourth team and both are coming off injury-plagued seasons. Panoke, a senior from Honolulu, caught 27 passes for 312 yards while Tanuvasa started eight games at center.
