Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rainbow Wahine Go Ice-Cold In Loss To UC Davis

HONOLULU– The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team endeured one of its toughest offensive games of the season in a 57-47 loss to UC Davis Thursday evening inside SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. UH shot just 25 percent on the night in falling to its conference rival.

The Rainbow Wahine (8-12, 6-5) split the season series with the UCD and have dropped the opening game of a conference weekend for five straight weeks. The Aggies (10-11, 6-5) bounced back after a 21-point loss to Long Beach State over the weekend and move into a tie with the 'Bows in the Big West standings.

UH went in the second quarter trailing 19-14, but the Aggies found a rhythm, going on a 12-2 run to build their lead to 35-20 at one point, leading to a 35-22 halftime deficit. The Rainbow Wahine cut the deficit in half and was within striking distance at 44-37 entering the final quarter.  But UH could never get over the hump as the Aggies hit some key shots, while UH struggled to convert on the offensive end.

Lily Wahinekapu led the 'Bows with 14 points, notching her sixth consecutive game of double-digit scoring, and dished out three assists. Sophomore forward Daejah Phillips returned to action after missing two games with 10 points off the bench, and pulled down five rebounds.

As a team, UH struggled shooting the ball at 25 percent (15-of-60) from the field, marking it the third game this season of hitting below 30 percent from the floor and the first since November 27th against Stanford. The shooting woes were particularly apparent from beyond the arc, where UH made just two of its 23 attempts.

The 'Bows will be in action on Saturday as they'll host Cal Poly at 7 p.m. HT. UH took care of business against the Mustangs on December 31st with a 50-47 victory.
