Atsuya Oishi completed the 46
th John A. Burns Intercollegiate in a tie for 26
th place following Friday's final round at the Ocean Course at Hokuala. The sophomore carded a 5-under 211 total for the tournament after a final round 2-under 70.
The intermittent weather forced the tournament to finish in two days rather than three days. Brigham Young ran away with the team championship with a tournament record 810 for its fourth Burns title and first since 2007. The Cougars finished 18 strokes ahead of runner-up No. 19 Arizona. Ninth-ranked Texas A&M finished in third place at 832.
Texas A&M's Sam Bennett and California's Sampson Zheng shared medalist honors at 18-under 198. Bennett tied the low round of the tournament with a course-record 11-under 61 in his final round.
Oishi's 211 total was the best 54-hole score of his UH career. The Japan native beat seven nationally ranked golfers among the 126-golfer field.
Senior
Zachary Sagayaga, who was competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 58
th place at 1-under 215. The Honolulu native completed his second round of 4-under 68 earlier in the day before finishing with a final round 1-under 71.
Blaze Akana carded a final round 70 to finish at 2-over 218 for the tournament and 83
rd place.
Tyler Ogawa shot a final round 72 and finished in a tie for 84
th at 3-over 219.
