LAS VEGAS — The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up victories in eight events — including all four relays — at the UNLV Invitational on Monday in Las Vegas.
The Rainbow Wahine opened the evening session at by winning the women's 200-yard medley relay and the Rainbow Warriors followed with a victory in the men's race.
The Rainbow Wahine team of
Alexa Ozment,
Kathryn Ivanov,
Holly Nelson and
Gabrielle Scudamore posted a time of 1 minute, 40.77 seconds in the win. The Rainbow Warriors also placed first with
Timothy Gallagher,
Justin Lisoway,
Grant Stoddard and
Jakub Ksiazek finishing in 1:26.41.
Stoddard then picked up an individual win in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 47.38 seconds and
Mario Surkovic won the men's 200 free in 1:36.69.
Mira Selling and
Anna Friedrich placed second and third in the women's 200 free. Selling touched the wall in 1:48.35 following by Friedrich at 1:50.22.
UH took three of the top four spots in the women's 100 breaststroke.
Zofia Tyminska won the event in 1:01.57, just ahead of Ivanov, who finished in 1:01.89.
Mandolin Nguyen placed fourth at 1:02.80.
Justin Lisoway placed second in the men's 100 breast and Gallagher was third in the 100 back.
UH closed the session with by winning the women's and men's 800 freestyle relays. The Rainbow Wahine team of
Cass Treydte,
Holly Nelson,
Anna Friedrich and
Mira Selling posted a time of 7:20.92. The Warriors then closed the swimming session with
Jordan Meacham,
Milan Bukovics, Surkovic and Gallagher winning the men's 800 free relay in 6:30.93.
Juan Gonzalez added a victory in the men's 3-meter diving competition with a score of 360.40 in the finals.
Mackaby Pennington came in third. The UH duo also placed second and third in the 1-meter event with Pennington posting a score of 318.55 followed by Gonzalez 293.75.
Elma Lund placed second in the women's 1 meter event with 260.95 points and third in the 3-meter event with 251.60.
The Rainbow Wahine enter the final day of the meet second in the team standings with 605.50 points, trailing UNLV's 732.50. The Rainbow Warriors are in third with 512 points behind UNLV (734.50) and Colorado Mesa (535.50).
