KAPOLEI, O'ahu – The Hawai'i men's golf team continued its stretch of record performances in Wednesday's second round of the Kapolei Invitational, matching the program 36-hole to-par scoring mark by reaching 20 under.
The Rainbow Warriors shot 13 under in round two to tie for the third-fewest strokes in a single round school history at 275. UH heads into the final round in a tie for 11th place.
Kolbe Irei continued to lead the way for the 'Bows, firing a 6-under 66. After going even over his first five holes, he birdied three straight from holes six through eight and made the turn at 3 under. The senior shot a bogey-free 3 under on the back nine, making birdies on three of his final five holes to move into a tie for 12th place individually.
Garrett Takeuchi moved into a tie for 24th at 6 under overall after turning in a 4-under 68, highlighted by a stellar front nine. The junior went out in 5-under 31, holing out for eagle from about 50 yards short and right of the green on the par-4 ninth before shooting 1 over on the back nine.
Two more Warriors shot under par, as
Blaze Akana carded a 2-under 70 for the second straight day highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 17th.
Isaiah Kanno shot a 1-under 71 thanks to a run of three straight birdies to begin his round.
Loyola Marymount holds the team lead at 36 under while LMU's Tony Hendricks and UC San Diego's Kyle Dougherty share the individual lead at 12 under.
The Rainbow Warriors close out play at the Kapolei Invitational Thursday beginning at 8:00 a.m.
