SOMIS, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team posted its highest finish ever at the Bill Cullum Invitational finishing in second place following Tuesday's final round at The Saticoy Club.
The Rainbow Warriors carded a 289 for an 876 total, six strokes behind team champion Cal State Fullerton (870). In eight previous appearances in the 27-year old tournament, UH's previous best showing was fourth place last season.
Blaze Akana placed sixth individually at 1-under 215, two strokes behind Cal State Fullerton's Patrick Ordonez and CSU San Bernardino's John Kim. Ordonez captured medalist honors winning a one-hole playoff after each posted 3-under 213.
Akana carded a final round 70 for his fifth career Top 10 finish. The 2-under round also marked his fourth round of par or better in two tournaments this season.
Josh Hayashida, who was competing in his first tournament of the season, tied for ninth place at 2-over 218 after a final round 73. The Top 10 finish was his third of his young career.

UH will close out the fall schedule by hosting a pair of tournaments – Kā'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, Oct. 26-28 on Maui and the Kapolei Invitational, Oct. 31-Nov. 2 on O'ahu.
