HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team (2-3, 0-0 Big West) notched their second-straight sweep with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-21 win over West Virginia (2-3, 0-0 Big XII) on Day 2 of the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge. It was a block party for the Rainbow Wahine as they out-blocked the Mountaineers 14.5 (season team high) -to-8.0 on Friday night at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Junior
Amber Igiede led the attack both on offense and defense, pounding a match-high 16 kills with just one error in 24 swings for a match-high .625 hitting percentage. She did not commit a hitting error until halfway through the third set. On defense, she was in on a match-high and season-high 7.0 blocks which included her tying her career-high with three solo blocks.
Junior outside hitter
Riley Wagoner posted a career-high 5.0 blocks—including two block solos—and put down eight kills with a pair of aces. Patrolling the back line, sophomore libero

Kate Lang dished out 29 assists and distributed her sets as all five hitters posted at least three kills apiece.
The beginning of the first set saw both team tied seven times. Hawai'i was able to re-take the lead at 10-9. With the score knotted at 12-12, the 'Bows went on a five-point scoring run with Wagoner behind the service line to lead 12-7 to force WVU to call a timeout. Hawai'i would maintain their lead down the stretch. UH earned set point after a long rally as the defense was scrambling with diving players keeping the ball alive with the point ending on an emphatic double-block by Igiede and Lang. UH pulled away, scoring the last three points to take Set 1, 25-19.
Hawai'i took that momentum from the first set into the second as they jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead which caused the Mountaineers to call a timeout. It was the best start to a set that UH had thus far this year. UH would extend their lead to 8-0 before WVU was able to score. The 'Bows scored in bunches and would lead by as many 12 points at 17-5. The Mountaineers would rally on a 9-to-2 run to close the gap to just five points at 19-15. But the 'Bows would win Set 2, 25-17 to lead 2-0 in the match. After two sets, Igiede had 10 kills and was hitting .667 (10-0-14) with seven blocks. In Set 2 alone, she was 6-0-7 with 4.0 blocks.
The two teams were tied early three times to start Set 3, but UH held off the Mountaineers for the first half of the third set. WVU would keep battling and would catch UH at 17-17 and again at 20-20. Hawai'i however would end the match on a 5-to-1 run ending with Igiede pounding down her 16
th kill.
Hawai'i had a 35-to-28 advantage in kills while holding the Mountaineers to a .010 hitting percentage. The Rainbow Wahine defense accounted for that as they out dug WVU, 37-to-33 and had 14.5 blocks to WVU's 8.0.
The Mountaineer's Adrian Ell put down a team-high 11 kills and Melanie McGann had a team-high five blocks.
All four teams and their staffs wore "Stand Against Racism" t-shirts and fans were encouraged to wear black as Hawai'i stood in solidarity with the AVCA and teams across the country in light of recent events in the college volleyball world.
