TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2022 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on Monday. The Univerisy of Hawai'i men's tennis team earned ITA All-Academic Team honors while five players—Cody Castro, Andy Hernandez, Andre Ilagan, Axel Labrunie and Blaz Seric all were tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The Rainbow Warriors have been named an ITA All-Academic Team a total of seven times (2010, '12, '13, '14, '15. '19, and '22). Since 1983, the men's team has had 29 individual players earn a total of 43 ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. For Seric, it marked the second time receiving the national honor. The only Rainbow Warrior to earn the award all four years was Chas Okamoto (2012-15).
Earlier this season, the Rainbow Warriors were named UH's Top Male Academic Team with a combined 3.34 team GPA.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements: have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements: have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
