HONOLULU— The University of Hawai'i baseball team claimed its fourth consecutive series win over a Big West opponent by taking game two on Saturday and game three on Sunday with a 17-3 victory over Cal State Fullerton.
The Rainbow Warriors (20-19, 13-8) recorded their seventh game of the season and fifth game since the start of April, where the offense scored 10 or more runs in a game. The Titans (17-24, 10-8) have dropped back-to-back conference series for the first time in 2022.
Coming off his appearance in the ninth on Saturday night, where he recorded his second save of the season, senior
Buddie Pindel took the mound for the 'Bows in his sixth start of the season. Pindel allowed two runs over an inning and a third before giving way to graduate
Andy Archer.
The 2-0 deficit quickly depleted in the bottom half of the second inning. On a 0-2 count with the bases loaded and two outs, graduate center fielder
Cole Cabrera mashed his third home run of the year for his first career grand slam at UH and a 4-2 lead.
In the fourth, sophomore catcher
Dallas Duarte got in on the action, building on the 'Bows' lead. As runners sat on second and third with two outs, Duarte lined a single to center field, scoring both, for a 6-2 advantage.
CSF got a run back in the fifth to make it 6-3, but UH answered quickly and efficiently. In the bottom of the sixth, the 'Bows put up a five-spot as junior first baseman
Jacob Igawa, sophomore second baseman
Stone Miyao, and freshman designated hitter
Bronson Rivera each tallied RBI singles in the frame. The explosive innings built the lead to 11-3 and eventually added up to a 17-3 final.
Cabrera, Miyao, Igawa, Rivera, Duarte, senior left fielder
Scotty Scott, and freshman shortstop
Jordan Donahue led the offensive onslaught as each recorded multi-hit games. Cabrera stood at the top of the lineup with a 4-for-4 day with five RBIs and four runs scored. The Honolulu, O'ahu native currently leads the team in RBIs with 28 and 29 runs scored.
Archer (2-5) picked up his second win of the season and his first since March 26th against UC Irvine at home.
UH will now go back on the road for a non-conference road trip with a visit to Las Vegas, Nevada, to take on UNLV. The 'Bows and Runnin' Rebels (29-15) battled back on February 26th as a part of the Tony Gwynn Classic, where UNLV came away with the 9-3 win. The three-game is set to begin on Friday and will take place at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the minor-league Las Vegas Aviators.
