The University of Hawai'i men's golf team will be competing in the Big West Championship, May 1-3, which will be held at La Quinta Country Club for the second consecutive year.
The Rainbow Warriors are seeded eighth in the nine-team tournament. UC Davis is the top seed followed by Long Beach State, UC Irvine, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, UC Santa Barbara, UH, and UC Riverside. LBSU is the defending champion.
Hawai'i will tee off Round 1 with UCSB and UCR on Sunday. The tournament runs three days – 18 holes each day – at the 6,997-yard, par-72 course. UH finished eighth in last year's championship.
The Rainbow Warriors will send a contingent of
Tyler Ogawa,
Pierce Braun,
Atsuya Oishi,
Zachary Sagayaga, and
Isaiah Kanno. Ogawa, who last week won the Championship Flight of the Mid-Pacific Open and finished runner-up for the overall title, leads the team with a 74.2 scoring average and was UH's top finisher in five tournaments this season.
Oishi has been the team's most consistent performer as of late, finishing either No. 1 or 2 in each of the last four tournaments. The Hiroshima, Japan native sports a 74.9 scoring average and posted the team's top 54-hole score of the spring season with a 3-under 210 at the Grand Canyon Invitational.
UH's best finish at the Big West Championship was fifth in 2019 when the Warriors hosted the event at the Wailua Golf Course in Līhu'e, Kaua'i.
