Rainbow Warriors Light Up the Scoreboard in Win Over the Roadrunners

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The winning streak for the University of Hawai'i baseball team extended to eight games on Saturday afternoon at Hardt Field after a 20-6 win over CSU Bakersfield.

The Rainbow Warriors (16-16, 9-6) notched their second consecutive series sweep of a Big West Conference opponent, the other coming against UC Riverside a week ago. The 'Bows are also two wins away from matching last season's longest win streak of 10 games. The Roadrunners (14-19, 7-5) have dropped six of their last eight contest.

It didn't take long for the bats to wake up and for runs to pile up on the scoreboard on the 'Bows' side. UH added five in the third after a run in the second inning off two errors on a pickoff throw at first, scoring junior right fielder Matt Wong from first to home.

Sophomore catcher Dallas Duarte highlighted the inning with a bases-loaded single, driving in two runs for a 3-0, UH lead. The Roadrunners surrendered three more runs in the inning due to errors and a catcher's interference, growing the lead to 6-0.

The fourth is where UH blew the doors off, accounting for 11 runs in the inning. Duarte added another bases-loaded single to his, adding two more runs batted into his stat line. The big blast came off the bat of sophomore second baseman Stone Miyao as he launched his first career grand slam over the right-field wall. It also marked the second homer of Miyao's career.

UH finished the fourth with a 17-0 leadoff timely hitting, and Roadrunners miscues. CSUB picked a run in the bottom half of the inning, but UH eventually built its lead to 19-1 after six innings of work. In those six innings, the Roadrunners committed a program-record eight errors.

The 'Bows ended the day with a season-high in runs at 20 and base hits with 16, while sophomore Connor Harrison (2-0) captured the win after relieving graduate starting pitcher Andy Archer in the third frame.

The road trip continues for UH with a stop at former WAC rival Fresno State on Tuesday, marking the fourth of the seven consecutive games away from the island of 'Oahu.
