30th Anniversary Celebration of the 1992 WAC and Holiday Bowl Champions!

In 1992 our Rainbow Warrior Football Team, coached by Bob Wagner, capped an 11-2 season with a 27-17 victory over Illinois in the Holiday Bowl, the program's first bowl win in its first mainland bowl appearance. Hawaii ranked No. 20 in the final AP poll and went 6-2 in the Western Athletic Conference to share its first conference title.

Michael Carter (QB) was named the Holiday Bowl's Outstanding Offensive Player and Junior Tagoai (DLine) was named the Outstanding Defensive Player. Travis Sims (RB) set three UH Bowl records for most yards, carries and touchdowns. Jason Elam (K), one of three future NFL players on the roster (with Maa Tanuvasa and Taase Faumui), set a UH bowl record for longest field goal.

30 years later, the 1992 team came together for an anniversary celebration weekend which ran from October 27th to the 29th. Kicking off the festivities, Kelly McGill (All WAC Offensive Lineman) hosted a Welcome Reception at his Tiki's Grill and Bar for 45 of his teammates. The alumni joined this year's team at their morning practice the following day, enjoyed an afternoon of golf, and gathered with their families at Champs Sports Bar and Grill that night.

Capping off the weekend celebration, 50 alumni plus their families enjoyed a pre-game reception hosted by the Letterwinners and Na Koa Football Clubs on the lawn area fronting both clubhouses. The guys formed an "Alumni Tunnel" alongside the large inflatable helmet and cheered on this year's team as they entered the field, and was given special recognition on the field in between the 1st and 2nd quarters with highlight photos/videos played on the jumbo screen throughout the game. During the on-field recognition, the 1992 team also presented the football program (represented by UH Athletics Director David Matlin) a three foot tall Ki'i (tiki trophy).
