Riley Wagoner combined for 27 of UH's 42 kills to lead UH's offensive attack on Saturday night at the Bren Events Center. The win keeps Hawai'i atop The Big West standings just a game ahead of UC Santa Barbara.
Igiede put down a match-high 14 kills while hitting .364 to record her 22
nd double-digit kill match of the season. She led UH with 6.0 blocks (one solo) while showing off her versatility and athleticism adding three digs, and a service ace for a match-high 18.5 points. In the third set alone, Igiede had seven kills on 15 errorless swings to hit .467 in the final frame.
Wagoner buried 13 kills to register her 16
th 10+ kill match. Along with Igiede, she finished the match strong, posting six kills in Set 3. Wagoner was also solid on defense with six digs and four blocks. UC Irvine targeted her 32 times but she did not commit any serve-receive errors for the night.
Setter
Kate Lang had 34 assists in the win while adding eight digs, a kill and a service ace.
Libero
Tayli Ikenaga was all over the floor directing the back row, scooping up a team-high 16 digs.
Set 1 saw momentum swings that went back and forth. Early on, UH led by as many as six at 12-6 via a pair of four-point runs with Igiede and Lang serving respectively. But the Anteaters rallied on a 7-to-1 run to trail by just one at 13-12. Hawai'i held off UCI but eventually, the Anteaters would retake the lead at 22-21. UCI held the lead until the 'Bows see-sawed back in front at 24-23 and scored the last three-straight points to hold off UCI for a 25-23 Set 1 win.
Hawai'i led Set 2 from get-go to finish, leading by as many as 12. A five-point scoring run with
Kendra Ham serving pushed UH's lead to 20-9 as the 'Bows would dominate Set 2, 25-13. After hitting just .077 in Set 1, the Rainbow Wahine recorded a whopping .440 hitting percentage in Set 2 while holding UCI to .029 hitting in the frame.
UC Irvine grabbed hold of an early lead to start Set 3. Hawai'i was trailing by three at 9-12 when the 'Bows got back on track, scoring the next four points to tie and then leapfrog over UCI at 13-12. The Anteaters would tie the score twice—the last time at 18-18. UH would hold the lead the rest of the way, score seven of the last 10 points to seal the sweep with a 25-20 Set 3 victory.
For the match, Hawai'i out-hit the Anteaters, 42-to-33 in kills and .222-to-.090 in hitting percentage. UH held UCI well below their season average of .227 coming into this week. The 'Bows had the edge in service aces 4-to-3 and blocks 6.0-to-4.0 but were tied 56-to-56 in digs.
UC Irvine was led by Onye Ofoegbu's 11 kills and three blocks. Campbell Jensen tied UH's Ikenaga with a match-high 16 digs while Kelly Negron issued a team-high 14 assists.
Hawai'i returns to host their final homestand of the season at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Hawai'i will host Cal Poly on Friday, Nov. 28 at 7:00 p.m. HT. The 'Bows will celebrate Senior Night on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. HT as UH will honor its lone senior,
