PULLMAN, WASH.—A rough start by the University of Hawai'i soccer team led to a 7-0 loss on the road at Lower Soccer Field against Washington State, Sunday afternoon.
The Rainbow Wahine (0-3-1) drop their third consecutive contest over four matches to start the season. The Cougars (3-0-1) remain undefeated on the year and improved their record to 8-0 all-time against UH.
The Cougars struck early and struck fast for a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes of the match. WSU picked up goals by Mackenzie Frimpong-Ellertson, Bridget Rieken, and Grayson Lynch. The offensive attack by the home squad saw 14 shots and four corner kicks in the first 45 minutes, compared to UH tallying three shots and no corner kicks.
Offensive pressure continued throughout the second half as WSU added four more goals for the eventual final. The Cougars outshot UH 26-3, including a 14-1 advantage in terms of shots on goal.
The 'Bows will head east for the third and final stop of the road trip for a match at Idaho on Wednesday. UH last played against the Vandals in 2017, when they also last traveled to the Kibbie-Asui Activity Center in a 1-0 loss. The match will begin at 3 p.m. HT.
