Rainbow Wahine Open Fall Camp on Monday

The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team opened up their fall camp on Monday, ending a long layoff without team practices due to the cancellation of the fall sports season by the Big West last fall.

The Rainbow Wahine return eight letterwinners from the 2019 team and bring in eight newcomers, including five fresh faces that were not in Manoa in 2020-21.

Hawai'i ranks amongst the top of the Big West in terms of height, with an average height of 71.82 inches (or 5-11 3/4 inches), ranking second in the conference to Cal Poly (71.91 inches) by a mere 0.09 inch difference in average height.

The returning Big West champions return three All-Big West honorees including All-Big West first team middles Amber Igiede and Skyler Williams. Redshirt senior Brooke Van Sickle returns as the top outside hitter from the 2019 squad.

The week got off to an emotional but happy start as redshirt junior Janelle Gong found out during a team meeting that she would be on scholarship on Sunday.

The Rainbow Wahine open the 2021 season at home in SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center against Fairfield in the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. HT.
