HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i soccer team capped off the preseason with its second consecutive win and shutout in exhibition action against HPU on Sunday afternoon, 1-0 at the Lower Campus grass practice fields.
The Rainbow Wahine collected a late goal on Tuesday, knocking off visiting Tusculum, as it was much of the same with HPU, with the lone goal coming in the 53rd minute. Sophomore forward
Kelci Sumida took a pass from freshman forward
Trini Quiroz at the top of the box, beating two defenders and the goalkeeper for the left-footed slap shot.
Sumida, one of three returners who garnished Big West Conference honors at the end of 2019, collected five goals as a freshman and will play a significant role in the 'Bows offensive attack. Quiroz, a newcomer from San Jose, California, flashed brilliance in both exhibitions, solidifying her an opportunity as a minute grabber early in 2021.
Mirroring their performance from earlier in the week, the 'Bows' defense smothered HPU allowing just two shots on sophomore goalkeeper
Lauren Marquez.
UH will officially start the regular season on Friday with the Outrigger Kickoff at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The 'Bows will host North Dakota State, Idaho State, and North Texas in the two-day event. Fans will not be permitted to watch any of the matches in person, as UH will first take on UNT at 7 p.m. HT.
