HONOLULU—For the first time since November of 2019, the University of Hawai'i soccer team took the field and claimed an exhibition victory over Tusculum University, 1-0 on Tuesday.
The lone goal was scored in the 82' minute with a sophomore connection to break the stalemate. Forward
Kelci Sumida found fellow forward
Taylor Caporus cutting through the left side of the box, connecting on a shot from 12 feet out, sending the ball right between the goalkeepers' legs for the 1-0 advantage.
Caporus saw limited action in 2019 as a freshman, playing in just four games, while Sumida was a Big West Conference honorable mention and a member of the All-Freshmen Team.
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine controlled the ball and the pace of the game throughout. UH tallied 14 corner kicks and 17 shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Lauren Marquez saw the first action of her career, but her backline kept the Pioneer attack away, as TU tallied just two shots on the day.
The 'Bows will be back in action on Sunday with their final tune-up before the regular season with another exhibition, this time against HPU. The match will kick-off at 3 p.m. on Lower Campus road at the grass practice fields.
