2021 Ends with 6-2 Loss at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i baseball team was swept on the road at Cal Poly on Sunday after falling 6-2 in the season finale.

Senior catcher Tyler Murray hit his first home run since 2018 for the Rainbow Warriors (24-26, 16-24 Big West) by blasting a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning, part of UH's 2-run fifth.

A couple of two-out walks and two-out singles scored the 'Bows' second run in the fifth.

Cal Poly (31-25, 21-19 Big West) scored two runs in the fourth inning, three in the fifth, to answer Hawaii's two runs in the top half and then an insurance run in the eighth.

Hawai'i's starter, Logan Pouelsen started strong, not allowing a base runner until the third inning, but departed with two outs in the fifth inning.

Relief pitchers of Li'i Pontes, Tyler Dyball and Tai Atkins allowed four total hits and struck out three in 3.1 innings combined.

Sophomore Scotty Scott and redshirt junior Dustin Demeter each ended the season with two-hit games.

Hawai'i ended the season with its best offensive season since joining the Big West in the following categories, average (.281), runs (267), hits (469), RBI (237), hit by pitch (66) and on-base percentage (.366).

UH pitching allowed the fewest triples against in a Big West season (9), tying the 2018 staff, and was two strikeouts away from tying the 2019 team's 360 strikeout record since joining the Big West.

Two Rainbow Warriors started all 50 games of the season, shortstop Kole Kaler and center fielder Adam Fogel, both starting all 50 games at the same position, respectively.
