HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i head football coach
Todd Graham has announced several coaching staff changes for the upcoming season.
Coach
Bo Graham will assume the title of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach while current Chief of Staff Coach
Trent Figg will move to an on-field coaching role as Associate Head Coach of the defense.
In addition, as he's done in the past at his previous stops, Coach Graham will take a more active role in the offense and will work collaboratively with Coach
Bo Graham and staff on the offensive development and game planning.
"Bo has been in a leadership role on offense during our 2020 season and was already heavily involved in the game planning and installation of our offense last season," Graham said. "This move allows us to keep continuity and development our no-huddle, fast tempo offense. The terminology and communication of our offense stays the same. Bo has a wealth of experience within our system, at numerous places, and I'm excited about this opportunity for him to lead our offense back to prominence."
Bo Graham has 12 years of coaching experience working alongside some of the best offensive coaches in the nation including Gus Malzahn, Mike Norvell, Chip Long, and Billy Napier. Has been on the staff for teams that have made a combined nine bowl appearances and four conference championship games. In 2020, he coached the Rainbow Warriors running backs and held the title of passing game coordinator.
Coach Graham also announced the hiring of wide receivers coach Marcus Davis, who spent the past season as an offensive graduate assistant at Florida State. In Tallahassee, he worked under Norvell, a former offensive assistant coach for Graham. Davis also played and coached at Auburn, where Malzahn, another former Graham assistant, ran the same system.
"Marcus has played and coached within our system both at Auburn and Florida State so he knows and understands how to teach our offense," Graham said. "He's a dynamic relationship-builder and through the process, he rose to the top. He knows how to develop players, he's outstanding at teaching the fundamentals of wide receiver play, and most importantly, he believes in our culture."
After a four-year playing career at Auburn in which he was a three-year starter and team captain, Davis moved into coaching as an offensive analyst for the Tigers in 2018 and assistant director of player development and personnel in 2019. From there, he joined Norvell's staff at Florida State for the 2020 season.
The Boynton Beach, Fla., native appeared in 50 career games at Auburn with 83 receptions and his career punt return average of 9.79 yards ranks eighth on the program's all-time list. He holds both bachelor's and master's degrees from Auburn. He also was an integral part of the Auburn team that won the SEC Championship and played for a national title in 2013.
Figg will maintain some of his football operations duties while assuming a full-time leadership position within the defense.
"By moving Coach Figg to a full-time coaching position and keeping his Chief of Staff responsibilities, we absorb one position," Graham said. "The move saves the department nearly $100,000 and helps relieve some of the financial burden due to the pandemic. Coach Figg is an outstanding leader and has the respect of our entire team."
Figg joined the program last February as Chief of Staff, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the football program. He came to UH after spending two seasons as the special teams and running back coach at Missouri State. Prior to that, the Chillicothe, Mo., native served as the defensive coordinator at Southern Arkansas and his alma mater William Jewell College.
Figg first worked with Graham as a defensive graduate assistant and special teams assistant at Arizona State in 2013.
Graham also announced that assistant coach Tony Hull will not return.
