HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i women's volleyball player
Brooke Van Sickle has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 Team, the organization announced Thursday. In order to be eligible for the all-District and All-America awards, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Van Sickle is a senior outside hitter who has led the Rainbow Wahine on the court all season long. She has played in all 24 matches this season and leads UH with 309 kills, 3.81 kills/set, 275 digs, 3.40 digs/set, 30 service aces and 369.5 points. She leads UH's outside hitters in blocks and is third on the team with 50.
Van Sickle came to UH as a junior transfer from Oregon in 2019 and earned all-Big West honorable mention honors in 2019. Last spring, Van Sickle earned her bachelor's degree in economics. Currently, she is pursuing a master's degree in marketing. In the classroom, the super senior has earned UH scholar-athlete honors in 2019 and scholar-athlete honors at Oregon as a freshman.
She is the first Rainbow Wahine to earn academic all-district honors since defensive specialist Clare-Marie Anderson in 2016. The district is comprised of NCAA institutions in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada, covering most of the schools in the Mountain West and Pac-12.
