MALIBU, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team fell out of the main draw of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships today, Oct. 23rd in Malibu, Calif. UH's Andre
Ilagan advanced to the Singles Round of 32 on Friday after defeating
UCSD's Jett Cole, 6-2, 6-1. At 11:30 a.m., it was time for
Ilagan to play University of Arizona' s Herman
Hoeyeraal, who came off of a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win in the prior Round of 64.
Ilagan lost by a break in both sets to be defeated by
Hoeyeraal, 6-4 6-4.
At the same time, UH's Axel
Labrunie was matched up against
Pepperdine's Andrew Rogers, who took the first set, 6-2.
Labrunie then lost by a break in the second, 6-4, conceding the match to Rogers.
In the consolation Round of 64,
Simao Telo Alves was halted by UC Santa Barbara's Alejandro
Vedri-Castellano Arsensi, 6-1, 6-3. In the singles consolation draw stage, UH's
Cody Castro and
Kilian Maitre both moved on to the Round of 32 due to injuries of their scheduled opponents, while
Blaz Seric earned a BYE.
In the Round of 32,
Seric managed to surpass Loyola Marymount's Austin Di
Giulio by a break in the first set followed by a win in the second, 6-4, 6-3. Castro was defeated by Grand Canyon's
Loic Van
Zeggelaar after a break in the second set, 6-1, 7-5, as well as
Maitre who was beaten by a player from Cal Poly.
