HONOLULU – A total of 67 current and former University of Hawai'i student-athletes were scheduled to be among the hundreds of graduates at the 109th Commencement Exercises, Saturday, May 16.
However, the ceremony was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic but UH Athletics would like to congratulate the school's newest graduates. Each of the graduating student-athletes were still presented with the traditional white "H" stoles courtesy of the UH Letterwinners Club. In lieu of a spring commencement, the school is encouraging students to attend either the 2020 Mid-Year Commencement, Dec. 19 or the 110th Commencement Exercises, May 15, 2021.
"Congratulations to the Class of 2020," Athletics Director David Matlin said. "You've excelled in the classroom and in the field of play, but more importantly you have represented your team, the University of Hawai'i, and the entire state with integrity. We are so proud of you and we look forward to watching you be the difference-makers of tomorrow."
The list includes student-athletes from all 21 sports including the football team, which led the way with 10 graduates followed by men's swimming and diving (8), baseball (6), women's swimming and diving (5), men's volleyball (5), women's basketball (4), beach volleyball (4), cheerleading (4), sailing (4), men's basketball (3), women's volleyball (3), women's soccer (2), women's tennis (2), women's track and field (2), men's golf (1), women's golf (1), softball (1), men's tennis (1), and women's water polo (1).
Student-athletes who are on track to attain their degrees during the summer session were also expected to participate in the Spring Commencement ceremony and are included on this list.
