LIHU'E, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team improved 11 strokes from the previous day with a second round 293 Friday at the 44^th John A. Burns Intercollegiate Friday at the Wailua Golf Course.
 
The Rainbow Warriors are tied for 18^th place with a 597 total. Three multiple Burns Intercollegiate champions are in the running for the team title with No. 10 Texas A&M atop the leaderboard at 569. No. 15 Brigham Young is two strokes back at 571 followed by No. 40 New Mexico (573). Round 1 leader UNC Wilmington is five strokes back at 574 in fourth place.
 
A pair of New Mexico golfers – Ignacio Arcaya and Sam Choi – are among a group of four tied atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under 140 along with UNCW's Segundo Oliva Pinto and Illinois' Tommy Kuhl. Arcaya shot the low round of the day at 6-under 66.
 
UH's top individual is freshman Kotaro Murata, who shot 4-under 68 and has a 2-under 142 total and tied for seventh place. The Japan native posted five birdies on his round including on his finishing two holes. Junior Justin Arcano carded 1-under 71 and is tied for 51^st place at 148. 
 
Junior Kanata Irei shot 75 and is tied for 68^th at 149; senior Nick Nelson carded his second straight 79 and is tied for 116^th at 158; and senior Trevor Hirata posted 80 for a 165 total and 120^th place.
 
Three UH golfers are competing as individuals – junior Cole Yoshida (81, t-116^th), sophomore A.J. Teraoka (79, 119^th), and junior Justin Ngan (84, 121^st). Junior Matt Lloyd was forced to withdraw for the second straight day due to illness.
 
The third and final round is scheduled for Saturday with an 8:00 a.m. HT shotgun start.
