GAME NOTES
  • Hawai'i remained ranked at No. 11 in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. Baylor, who UH played two weeks ago, rose to No. 1 this week and remains the only undefeated team in the NCAA DI. Former No. 1 Stanford fell to No. 3 after falling to No. 8 Washington on Sunday and Nebraska rose to No. 2. Teams ranked from #4-#14 all remained the same from last week. UH has now been ranked in the Top 25 a total of 504 times.
  • Outside hitter Hanna Hellvig earned her second Big West Freshman of the Week honor after leading UH to a pair of wins to start the conference season at Long Beach State and CSUN. Hellvig led UH with a combined 31 kills and seven blocks. At Long Beach State, Hellvig tied her career-high posting 17 kills. She added three blocks, two digs and an ace in the four-set victory in UH's BWC opener. The following night at CSUN, Hellvig paired a career-high 20 digs with 14 kills for her fifth double-double of her young career. She also posted a team-high four blocks and two service aces. The 20 digs marked just the second time this season that a UH player has collected 20 in a match. The Swedish native has led the team in kills in five out of the Rainbow Wahine's last six matches.  Overall, Hellvig leads UH with 158 total kills and is second on the team with 48 total blocks. She also has 112 digs and 10 service aces.
  • Robyn Ah Mow won her 50th match as UH head coach. In her third season as head coach, Ah Mow has a 50-18 record career record.
  • The Rainbow Wahine have been hosting a block party almost every game this season. The 'Bows were out-blocked forjust the second time this season in their most recent match at CSUN, 11.0-8.0.Overall, the 'Bows have out-blocked their opponents 144.5-to-96.0 and the team is averaging 2.78 blocks per set. It is the most team blocks that UH has had since 2015 when UH had 146.0 total blocks through the first 13 matches. In 2015, UH also got off to a 12-1 record. That season, UH lead the NCAA in blocks per set for much of the season and finished the year ranked No. 2 in the nation with 3.06 blocks per set.  Currently the Rainbow Wahine are ranked at No. 10 in the NCAA with 2.88 blocks per set.
  • Six rotation outside hitter Brooke Van Sickle earned the Best Defender Award for the Baylor Classic in UH's last tournament where she recorded a team-high 24 digs and seven blocks in two games. She also added 15 kills and an ace while in Waco. Overall, the redshirt junior Oregon transfer is second on the team with 107 kills, averaging 2.10 kills perset. • UH's senior setting duo of Bailey Choy and Norene Iosia have combined their efforts to issue out 544 assists. Choy has dished out 278 assists with 118 digs and 11 service aces. Choy has recorded five double-doubles already this season--the last coming against Utah Valley with 20 assists and 14 digs. Iosia leads Hawai'i with 278 assists, 16 service aces and 123 digs. She enters this week with 50 career double-doubles and five triple-doubles under her belt. For her career, Iosia needs just 33 digs to become the 15th member of UH's 1,000 Dig Club. The last Rainbow Wahine to achieve that milestone was Savanah Kahakai two years ago in 2017. She also needs just one service ace to tie former UH great, Tita Ahuna at No. 10 on UH's career service ace record book. Currently, she has 107 aces.
  • Junior middle blocker Sklyler Williams helped lead UH to three wins to capture the 2019 Heineken Rainbow Wahine Invitational title in Week 2. • In the 14 years that Hawai'i has hosted three non-conference tournaments, the Rainbow Wahine have won all three tourneys in one season a total of four times—including this season. But this year is the first time that UH has had three different players earn MVP honors. Junior outside hitter Jolie Rasmussen earned the Rainbow Wahine Classic MVP award the first week. Junior middle blocker Skyler Williams was named MVP of the Invitational and Hellvig earned MVP honors this past week. All three players also hit the trifecta earning the Big West's three different Player of the Week awards over the first three weeks of the season. Rasmussen garnered BWC Player of the Week and Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honors after her UH debut weekend when UH defeated No. 21 San Diego, St. John's and No. 13 Washington to start the season.
