EUGENE, Ore. – University of Hawai'i senior
Cameron Kaneko holds the 36-hole lead at the Oregon Duck Invitational following the first day of competition Monday at the Emerald Valley Golf Club.
The senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., posted rounds of 1-under 71 and 3-under 69 for a 4-under 140 total and holds a two-stroke lead over Oregon's Ryan Gronlund (70-72). Kaneko is one of only five golfers among the 88-man field under par heading into Tuesday's final round.
Kaneko is attempting to become the first UH golfer to capture medalist honors since Skye Inakoshi was co-medalist at the 2016 John A. Burns Intercollegiate. Kaneko's best career finish is a tie for 15
that the 2017 Big West Conference Championship while his best 54-hole score is 2-under 214 at the 2017 Jackrabbit Invitational.
As a team, Hawai'i (295-309) slipped to 12
thplace at 604 after beginning the day with a first round 295 that put them in a tie for fifth. Oregon State and host Oregon share the team lead at 1-over 577, three strokes ahead of Nevada (580).
